WEST Yorkshire is in the running to become an international beacon for encouraging the use of ultra-low emission vehicles.
The West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) is one of 12 UK authorities that has been shortlisted for a share of a £35 million green vehicle fund.
West Yorkshire's proposals include improving access to electric charging points, expanding the new West Yorkshire and York Car Club fleet and offering free city centre parking for low-emission cars.
Up to four successful bidders will be revealed in the autumn.
WYCA chairman Councillor Peter Box said: "I am pleased that WYCA has the potential to access this funding and am confident we will be entering a strong submission that would make West Yorkshire and particularly the urban centres of Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds and Wakefield a Go Ultra Low exemplar.
"Making ultra-low emission vehicles a practical and viable choice for more people will help to reduce carbon emissions, improve local air quality and transform people’s quality of life."
