A PASSENGER in a taxi was praised after alerting firefighters to a blaze in a bedsit in Bradford last night.
Fire crews from Odsal and Bradford stations were called to New Cross Street, West Bowling, at 11.55pm.
Odsal crew commander Ian Turner said: "A member of the public in a passing taxi rang it in. They saw flames in the window.
"There was minimal damage because of the phone-in and because of the quick actions of the fire team that went in."
The bedsit was upstairs in a converted terraced house. No-one was in the bedsit at the time, said crew commander Turner.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
