ANGLERS are reminded that rivers are off limits for coarse fishing from Sunday, as the close season begins.
The Environment Agency is warning anyone caught breaking the rules may be prosecuted.
Fishing is still permitted on many canals and stillwaters, depending on landowner agreement.
Peter Mischenko, Environment Agency fisheries officer, said: “By preventing coarse fishing for three months, 15 March to 15 June, it allows the fish an uninterrupted spawning period and it also provides environmental benefits.”
