A PAIR of Bradford drug dealers who attempted to flee from police with 76 wraps of heroin and cocaine have both been jailed for two and a half years.

Christopher Hoggart, 23, and James Isles, 26, were seen by plain-clothes officers involved in what they believed to be a drug deal in Wapping Road, Undercliffe, on April 2 last year, Bradford Crown Court was told today.

A car driven by Isles, in which Hoggart was a passenger, was then followed and stopped by police in Harrogate Road.

Isles managed to drive away in the car, while Hoggart ran from the vehicle and was chased by police.

The court heard that during the pursuit, he threw bags of drugs into a nearby churchyard before being caught and arrested.

The bags contained 38 packs of heroin, and 38 packs of cocaine, a total of 14gms with a street value of nearly £900.

Isles handed himself in to police two days later.

Prosecutor Stephanie Hancock said the pair's actions constituted street dealing, where both defendants had played a "significant role".

Michael Collins, mitigating for Hoggart, of Dennison Fold, Tyersal, Bradford, said his client was given the drugs but had "no authority to choose who to sell to".

Shufqat Khan, for Isles, of Arkwright Street, Tyersal, Bradford, described him as an "unemployed drug user who dealt on behalf of another" at the time of his offence.

Both defendants had pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply at an earlier hearing.

Jailing the pair, the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, said: "The supply of Class A drugs in this city is a real problem, and the damage they do to people cannot be underestimated.

"You had more than 70 wraps to supply on the streets, and you clearly understood what was going on.

"Were you pressured, intimidated, or coerced? I don't think so."
