AN EMERGENCY response car, funded by Bradford-based Sovereign Health Care, has transported doctors to more than 300 incidents in its first year.
Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust donated £41,000 for West Yorkshire Medic Response Team (WYMRT) to buy a new state-of-the-art emergency specification Volvo XC70. In less than 12 months the car has already clocked up more than 11,000 miles taking medical teams to a range of incidents including road traffic collisions, stabbings, shootings and impalements.
The WYMRT is made up of 55 volunteers who work 12 hour shifts on Friday and Saturday nights.
Dr Andy Pountney, WYMRT chairman, said: “The response car is active to support the ambulance service during some of its busiest periods. In any one weekend, the team can be called to as many as 20 incidents.”
