BRADFORD Dudley Hill are holding a charity ladies’ rugby league match to remember a club stalwart.
The contest, between the reformed Bradford Dudley Hill Diamonds and a Ladies’ League Select XIII on Saturday, March 21 (4pm), is in honour of Jose Luis Gaspar Marin, who died last September after a short illness.
Jose was a club supporter for ten years and, along with his wife Jane, ran the kitchen for a couple of seasons, were regular fundraisers for the club and could be found at all of Hill’s games from under-eights up to open age.
When the Diamonds were formed, he was at every game, even when there was just him, his wife and the team manager to cheer the girls on.
Jose supported the girls every step of the way and was often seen babysitting or dog-watching so that the mothers in the team could train and play.
All money raised will be donated to Ward Two at Airedale Hospital, who did everything that they could to save his life and make him comfortable in his final hours. There will be a raffle during the afternoon, a tombola and possibly an auction.
