STRINGENT measures are vital to ensure the future success of a showpiece agricultural event.
That was the message from Keighley Show bosses as the organising society staged its annual general meeting.
Chairman William Mitchell said that despite poor weather on show day, last September, overall it had been a successful year.
And he paid tribute to retiring president Tim Robinson, presenting him with a photo album as a momento of the day.
"I would like to thank Tim for his fundraising efforts – without which the financial outcome would have been a different picture," said Mr Mitchell.
"It is important we run an efficient organisation to maximise its potential and with this in mind the committee will be looking at making improvements for 2015.
"The show costs in the region of £34,000 to stage and continued stringent measures are important to ensure future success."
Several fundraising events will be held.
Preparations are already well under way for this year's event, at Marley playing fields on September 5.
President will be Mrs Christine Highley, who has been involved with the show for many years, including over a quarter of a century as treasurer.
She taught at Keighley's college for 30 years and now runs her own company, Moorside Training.
President-elect is Keighley butcher and businessman, Chris Herd.
Mr Mitchell was re-elected chairman, and secretary is Katrina Thackray and treasurer Will Twigg.
Admission prices this year will be £8 for adults, and £5 concessions.
"This is still cheaper than admission to most other local shows," said Mrs Highley.
"Visitors can take advantage of the opportunity to purchase advance tickets – at £6 for adults and £4 concessions – making it exceptionally good value for a day out which all the family can enjoy.
"Pre-show tickets will be available from various outlets during August and through our website."
People are being urged to consider becoming society members.
An annual subscription includes entry to the show, parking on the upper level at Marley – space permitting – and use of the members' bar facilities, with seating alongside the main arena.
Members are also able to attend the president's official luncheon, for an extra charge, and the society's annual general meeting.
