WORTHY Bradford groups have been handed cheques totalling almost £28,000 by the charitable arm of the Telegraph & Argus.

Trustees at The Gannett Foundation, which is operated by the US company that owns the newspaper, chose five causes to support at the end of 2014, who have now been handed the cash.

Centrepoint was handed £8,095; Small World Cultural Arts Collective in Keighley was given £5,960; the Cellar Trust in Shipley received £5,586, Cancer Support Bradford and Airedale was granted £5,545 and HF Trust Ltd received £2,750.

Centrepoint, which helps 320 young people who have been made homeless, will spend its grant on starting an upcycling project for furniture at its Manchester Road site.

Cancer Support will continuing paying for the upkeep of its new base in Skipton town centre.

HF Trust Ltd, a group for adults with learning difficulties, will spend the money on gardening equipment to further its work.

The Cellar Trust, based in Fairfield Road, Shipley, will update the equipment used in the kitchen of its Old School Cafe in Shipley.

Small World, a music charity for youngsters aged eight to 18, will spend its money on new musical equipment.
