AN EMERGENCY medical response car, funded by Bradford-based Sovereign Health Care, has transported doctors to more than 300 incidents in its first year on the roads of West and South Yorkshire.

Sovereign Health Care’s Charitable Trust donated £41,000 to enable the West Yorkshire Medic Response Team (WYMRT) to buy a new emergency specification Volvo XC70.

The car has clocked up 11,000 miles taking medical teams to a range of incidents including traffic collisions, cardiac arrests, fires, stabbings and shootings.

Dr Andy Pountney, WYMRT chairman, said: “The advantages of having a doctor on the scene of serious incidents are enormous, and there is little doubt that many lives will have been saved thanks to the actions of doctors in the emergency response vehicle.”

Russ Piper, chief executive of Sovereign Health Care, said: “The WYMRT has helped save many lives over the years, and we are proud to be a long term supporter of the charity.”
