BRADFORD runner Jason Scothern is urging others to help boost funds for vital Alzheimer’s disease research.
The 42-year-old call centre manager from Wyke has signed up to get involved in parkruns in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
The charity has partnered up with Parkrun UK – organisers of free, weekly, 5k timed runs nationwide, to promote exercise over the next three years as a way of reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, increase public understanding of the condition and boost funds for crucial research.
Mr Scothern will also be tackling the Great North Run on September 13 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
He said: “While I’ve not been personally affected by it, I want to do everything I can to help others.”
Parkruns take place in open space across the UK each weekend. Events are open to everyone and are safe and easy to take part in. Recent figures revealed around 55,000 people run 5k at 310 events each Saturday, with another 2,500-plus juniors running 2k on a Sunday.
