A SCHOOL has embraced the latest technology on offer to cut its energy use.
Haworth Primary School took advantage of a Bradford Council scheme set up in 2013. This allowed schools to install solar panels without having to enter into long-term contracts with private companies.
Haworth Primary has made use of the scheme to install solar panels, which were fitted last autumn and began operating last month.
As part of a separate initiative, the school is replacing its older lighting with energy-efficient LED lights.
Head teacher Helen Thompson said: “The school already does a lot of education around the theme of sustainability and we’re always looking to reduce our carbon footprint.
“Our year six classes have been designing sustainable eco-houses, looking at things like under-floor heating and wind turbines.”
