A SIX-week programme to redevelop a junction on the Stanningley bypass has started.
It is hoped the work, where the bypass meets Swinnow Road, will improve traffic flow during morning and evening rush-hours. The road is being resurfaced and two mini roundabouts, a zebra crossing and traffic island are being installed.
Highways officers said work will be done outside peak times and not at weekends. Temporary traffic lights and road closures will be in place.
Pudsey Labour councillors Richard Lewis, Josie Jarosz and Mick Coulson are delighted work has started. Cllr Lewis said: “As the junction with the Stanningley bypass is busy and difficult for pedestrians to use, many residents felt cut off from nearby amenities including the rail station and Morrisons. We believe these proposals will make the roads and junction safer and easier to use for drivers and pedestrians and look forward to seeing the works completed in the next few weeks.” For enquiries, ring 0113 222 4407.
