STUDENTS at the University of Bradford are set to make a colourful contribution to the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal by holding a community carnival later this month.
The charity fun day, organised and run by students Phillipa Rodney and Dom Osbourne, will also raise funds for the Penny Appeal and the Colours Ball at the university.
Miss Rodney is hoping hundreds of visitors will join students at the second 'Colours Carnival' on Tuesday, February 24, taking part in fun activities to raise money for a good cause.
"We are trying to follow a carnival theme in terms of the events, food, and decorations," she said.
"The aim was to try to be bigger and better than last year, and we're still hoping to include more of the university's sports teams to help give the event a final push."
Dance demonstrations proved to be some of the highlights from last year's event, and this year's carnival will include a performance from the Nigerian Student Society and a Street Dance tournament.
Many of the university's sports teams and societies will also be on-hand to run come and try sessions for those people who may not have tried their activities before.
"Anyone can come along, and hopefully there'll be something to keep everyone involved and entertained," said Miss Rodney, who is studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the university.
"As organisers, we're definitely looking forward to it, and hopefully it will appeal to members of the community who are able to come down on the day."
Miss Rodney said choosing to support the Crocus Appeal again this year was an "easy choice" to make.
"It's a charity we at the university support all the time, and it's very important to the students here.
"I think it's a good idea that we get involved and support local charities as it allows people to get a better understanding of the city's student population and how we can help."
Victoria Collins, development officer at The University of Bradford, said: “We are really pleased that the Student Union has chosen to support the Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal again this year.
"Last year’s Colours Carnival was a great event, and we hope that this year’s is just as successful.”
The T&A Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal is aiming to raise £1 million towards the city's ground-breaking work to fight the disease faster than ever before.
The campaign, which is being run with the university, Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust and Yorkshire Cancer Research, will use any money raised towards a hi-tech machine that could hold the breakthrough to developing less toxic and more targeted tumour-blasting cancer treatments.
