THE Mayan and Anglo-Saxon civilisations were brought back to life at one of the district’s schools thanks to the work of a theatre group.
Moving Words Theatre have been visiting Thackley Primary School this week to provide an exciting introduction to some aspects of history that are new to the curriculum.
Rather than start off their learning through textbooks, pupils at the school took part in theatre workshops about the Mayans yesterday and epic tale Beowulf on Tuesday.
Each day involved 45 children travelling back in time to live like the ancient civilisations.
Both sessions involved The pupils learning about the different cultures during the day, using what they learned to create performance pieces, and them performed what they learned at an special assembly in front of their parents at the end of school.
Kate Bainbridge, a member of staff at the school. said: “It is far more interesting for children to start to learn about a subject by taking part in something like this.”
