SCHOOLCHILDREN and community volunteers will attend a tree-planting event next week to commemorate those who lost their lives in the First World War.

It takes place from 1pm to 3pm on Friday, February 6, at the junction of Wrose Road and Carr Hill in Wrose, with 500 trees set to be planted in the first phase of the project, which will eventually see the planting of 7,000 trees in the Shipley area.

In memory of those who gave their lives during the war, the planting site has been named Dennison Wood to honour Pte Arthur Dennison, the first local soldier who died in the conflict.

Supported by environmental charities Trees for Cities, Bradford Environmental Action Trust, Bradford Council and Morrisons, the BeTREEmendous with Velvet campaign is hosted by SCA-owned toilet paper brand Velvet. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Bradford will also attend.
