RESIDENTS of two roads in the Bolton area of Bradford are saying no to cold callers as part of a Council-funded scheme.

Ploughmans Croft and Badgers Way are part of the latest cold calling control zone. Overall 190 zones have been set up across West Yorkshire and reduced overall crime.

Through the help of West Yorkshire Trading Standards and partners neighbourhood policing teams, neighbourhood watch, area committees and local housing associations, the zones have been funded in areas blighted by rogue traders, doorstep criminals and sales people.

The zone was created after complaints from tenants to Councillor Howard Middleton. Officers from West Yorkshire Trading Standards, West Yorkshire Police, Bradford Council and Cllr Middleton delivered leaflets and stickers to each property, and put up signs.

David Lodge, of West Yorkshire Trading Standards, said feedback from residents would enable action against traders.

Cllr Middleton (Lib Dem, Bolton and Undercliffe) said: “Some vulnerable residents felt intimidated. dealing with doorstep traders and that’s why this Cold Calling Control Zone is being introduced. By working with residents and our partners to enforce this zone we can ensure that cold callers get the message that they are not welcome.”
