TOUGH new parking restrictions planned for Bingley are fiercely opposed by many residents and would be “dishonouring” Christian worshippers, according to the town’s vicar.
A move by Bradford Council to create residents-only parking on streets near All Saints’ Church and impose two-hour waiting limits on neighbouring Keighley Road has provoked angry objections.
And the Rev Canon Beverley Mason said her congregation was being treated unfairly and that it was already “more difficult to park near the church on a Sunday morning than it is in Belgravia”.
“Every one of my congregation demonstrates good citizenship and works in the community for the common good. This is something dishonouring them and their faith,” she said. “All Saints is an ancient parish church and these restrictions would be compromising Christian activities.”
Shipley Area Committee meets to discuss its options at Bingley Town Hall today from 6pm.
