AN AU PAIR was today starting a ten year jail term for sexually abusing a young boy and possessing more than 30,000 child porn images.

Czech national Dusan Juran was caught when police swooped on the Bradford home where he was caring for two young children, after catching him file sharing indecent photos on the internet.

Juran, 25, came to the UK in 2013 and was working full time as an au pair in the city after doing the same job for a family in France, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

He pleaded guilty to 19 offences involving the sexual abuse of a young boy in the Czech Republic, taking indecent photos and movies of him, distributing some of those images to a Dutch national and possession of a total of 30,585 child porn pictures and movies.

Prosecutor Andrew Semple said seven of the charges concerned the repeated sexual abuse of the boy in 2012, when he was eight, and again last year when Juran made another visit to his homeland.

Mr Semple stressed there was no evidence that Juran ever inappropriately touched any youngster in his charge in France or the UK.

The remainder of the offences related to the production, possession and distribution of vast amounts of child pornography.

Juran was working for a Bradford family with two children and living at the address when the police seized his laptop computer and phone in November last year.

The tens of thousands of indecent images on the computer included pictures Juran had taken of the boy he molested in the Czech Republic.

He confessed to the police what he had done when they questioned him about a photo of the child in his underwear.

Juran was immediately sacked by the distressed Bradford parents, Mr Semple said.

He admitted sending indecent photos and videos of the boy to a Dutch national he met on the internet.

Juran's barrister, Jayne Beckett, said he had no criminal convictions in the UK or elsewhere in Europe.

He was an isolated loner who was bullied at school.

He began working with computers before moving to France and then Britain as an au pair.

Juran hoped to serve his sentence in his homeland rather than in a foreign prison.

"He now accepts that this was for sexual gratification, however much he may hang his head in shame," Mrs Beckett said.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, said Juran was working with young children in Bradford when he was arrested.

"Behind that veneer of respectability and decency lay a very dark side to you. It began to come to light when the police paid a visit late last year. They had information that you were in contact over the internet with indecent material," he said.

After the case, Detective Constable John Higgins, of West Yorkshire Police abusive images unit, said: "The complex investigation into Juran began when intelligence was received that suggested indecent images of children were being shared from an address in Bradford. Through the swift investigation of mobile phones and computers, much more sinister offences were uncovered that Juran had committed against a young boy

“The term of imprisonment passed down reflects the severity of these offences.

"West Yorkshire Police will robustly investigate any offences committed against vulnerable children in our society, not just in the UK but other countries worldwide.

"We also hope it will encourage other victims of sexual abuse to engage with West Yorkshire Police and our specially trained officers, who will investigate all offences sensitively and thoroughly, with the aim of securing convictions against offenders."
