WOMEN aged over 25 in Bradford are encouraged to go for screenings as part of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, which runs until Saturday.
Statistics show that more than 40 per cent of women aged between 25 and 49 in the city, and about a quarter across the district, have not had a cervical screening within the last three and a half years.
Also, about 20 per cent of women in the district aged 50 and over have not been for a screening for five and a half years.
Ralph Saunders, head of public health for the council, said: “It’s very important younger women go for their screening when invited. Those aged 25 to 34 are most likely to be unsure whether they need to attend.
“Cervical cancer is the most common type of cancer in women under 35 and is unusual because rates don’t just increase with age.”
