PROPOSALS to introduce a new one-way system on a Bradford side-road have the support of residents, according to traders.
Bradford Council has suggested that a section of Wheater Road, in Lidget Green, should be turned into a one-way street to improve road safety and reduce congestion at a narrow junction.
Then traffic would flow off Beckside Road into Wheater Road and move in one direction to the Back Beckside Road junction where the one-way section would end.
The road would be narrowed in places, but new parking spaces will be created.
Moosa Desai, who runs a food shop on the corner of Cumberland Street and Wheater Road, said: “Why not? There is too much congestion, when you get to the junction there is no space to drive.”
Hasan Patel runs the Corner Shop in Wheater Road and agreed, stating: “It is a good idea because there is too much traffic. People have been talking about it and they think it is a good idea.”
A public meeting will be held on Monday at St Wilfrid’s community hall, in St Wilfrid’s Road, for residents to learn more about the council’s plans.
Council officials will be present at the meeting from 5pm until 7pm to explain the proposals.
