HILDA Hanson marked her 101st birthday with 101 cards.
The great great grandma was overwhelmed by the special delivery at Springfield Care Home in Halifax Road – thanks to the organisational skills of her granddaughter Sue Godward and the wonders of social media where she put out an appeal for well-wishers and got 35,000 likes.
After the appeal cards flew in from all around the world including Canada and Australia.
Mrs Godward said: “There was even a special card from the old comrades association of 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards and one from Bradford City’s former City Gent mascot Lenny Berry too.
“Hilda was overwhelmed at so many cards. She read each one, including the stamps and envelopes to see where they had come from. It took three hours to get through them all.”
Mrs Hanson, who has a liking for cards and high heels, was one of six children and worked in a Bradford mill before getting a job at St Luke’s pushing the tea trolley round the children’s ward.
She had one child of her own, Frank Cottam, now 82, and has a grand total of 23 great-great grandchildren with three more on the way.
Mrs Godward added: “Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal of 101 cards. She had a lovely day.”
