BRADFORD Council is urging people to think about how cold weather this winter may affect them, their family and home.
Cold weather can lead to serious health problems and even kill, with people who are over-65, have suffered from heart attacks, strokes or pneumonia particularly at risk.
Dr Shirley Brierley, consultant in public health for Bradford Council, said: “If you have to go out, dress warmly, wear non-slip shoes and tell someone where you are going and when you will return.”
Bradford Council is working with organisations to help vulnerable groups across the district through the Warm Homes, Healthy People partnership.
The Cold Weather Plan for England sets out a series of actions to help reduce cold-related illnesses and deaths and is available at gov.uk/phe.
People struggling to keep their houses warm can also go to the gov.uk website to find out how to apply for benefits.
