THE region’s ever-increasing numbers of unwanted cats has resulted in an unwelcome record for a charity in the district.
Yorkshire Cat Rescue, based in Cross Roads, near Haworth, coped with a 22 per cent rise in the number of cats it rescued during 2014.
In 2014, the charity accommodated 865 new cats and kittens compared with 688 the previous year.
Charity founder Sara Atkinson (pictured) said: “We desperately need more donations to cope.”
