A TEAM of Keighley volunteers is again collecting donated goods and cash to help Syrian refugees.
The group of about 20 Keighley people has set up two donation points where people can drop off items or money – Shann’s Supermarket, in Alice Street, and Oakworth Fried Chicken, in Oakworth Road.
Highfield resident Amjid Ahmed, who is one of the volunteers, said once enough has been collected to fill a shipping container this will be transported to the conflict zone and distributed to needy people by the charity SKT Welfare.
“We’re looking to collect things like over-the-counter medicines, blankets, new clothing, and food,” he said.
“We’re a group of Keighley lads and we’ve done this before about a year ago when we managed to have three containers shipped out. We now want to do another push as it’s winter and these people still need help.”
Mr Ahmed said the group is even intending to send donated wheelchairs, for injured or disabled refugees. He asked people wanting to donate food to please give non-perishable, halal supplies.
