A NEW service aims to match up homeowners looking for lodgers with people looking to rent a room.

West Yorkshire’s five local authorities have teamed up to create the web-based service, called Rent a Room.

The website provides an opportunity for prospective hosts and lodgers to enter basic details about themselves so that a compatible match can be found. It was developed in response to a growing demand for affordable accommodation.

Councillor Cathy Scott, cabinet member for housing at Kirklees Council, said: “We are delighted to be working with our partners to be able to offer this new web service, which will help many people find affordable accommodation.”
