A SCHOOLGIRL has given more than £1,000 to a charity which supports her partially-sighted younger sister.
Riley Blissett raised £1,127 for Aniridia Network UK as her seven-year-old sister, Tora, has the condition, which has left her blind in one eye and with severe impairment and clouding in the other.
The girls’ mum, Susan Blissett, 36, said: “She’s really proud of herself. I’m very proud too.”
Riley, who was sponsored to wear a blindfold for a full day, has now handed the money over to Liz Atkinson from the charity.
“It was really nice that Liz came over to collect the money and have her photograph taken with the girls. It just shows how appreciative they are of it. She was over the moon. She was really, really pleased by what Riley did and she thought it was a massive achievement for an 11-year-old to undertake,” Mrs Blissett said.
The girls live in Howard Park, Cleckheaton, and are pupils at Howard Park Community School.
Riley spent a day blindfolded and said her main concern was about missing out on reading. “It was a relief when she took the blindfold off,” Mrs Blissett added.
