A STUDENT who "drove like an idiot" in a high speed police chase has been ordered to do 240 hours of unpaid work.
Kamran Hussain, 20, of Bonn Road, Heaton, Bradford, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on the city's Toller Lane after midnight on September 13 last year.
Bradford Crown Court heard today that he drove straight over a blind junction and went double the 30mph speed limit.
He abandoned the Mitsubishi Shogun on Silver Street and was arrested after a police officer pursued him on foot on to Whetley Lane.
Judge Jonathan Rose said Hussain was a decent, hard working young man who drove like an idiot.
"Every time you drive like that, you put at risk the lives of decent people," he told him.
Hussain was sentenced to an 18-month community order and banned from driving for 18 months. He must attend a responsible road users probation service course and pass an extended test before he can drive.
The judge warned Hussain that if he breached the order, he would be locked up.
