TRIBUTES have been paid to two former councillors who have recently died.

A full council meeting held a minute’s silence in memory of former Lord Mayor Arnold Lightowler, who represented Baildon from 1974 to 1987, and former Councillor Clement Richardson, who represented Wibsey from 1986 to 1990.

Council leader Councillor David Green (Lab) said Mr Richardson had been a hard-working and committed councillor.

He said: “He had a great intelligence and a steely determination, but was a very quiet individual whose opinions and advice were listened to all the more because of the way he put his heartfelt views and his commitment to socialism over.”
