PROCEEDS from carol singing by Rotarians is to be shared out between three charities. The Rotary Club of Otley Chevin raised £1,800 by singing at various local restaurants and inns in the run-up to Christmas.
Donations will be made to Macmillan Cancer Support, Martin House Children’s Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Care. A quiz night held by the club at the Wetherby Whaler, in Guiseley, was also well supported and generated more than £600. Cheques were presented on the evening to representatives from Macmillan Cancer Support and Martin House.
The club has also been fundraising to pay for a publicly accessible defibrillator for the centre of Otley.
The project received a £50 boost from a collection at the 2014 Otley Christmas Tree Festival, and enough money has now been raised to proceed. The club is consulting with Otley Town Council and Yorkshire Ambulance Service over the final details.
