POLICE who video recorded a quad bike being ridden illegally in Bradford managed to identify the vehicle and impound it almost two weeks later.
They were unable to stop the quad when they saw it being ridden at speed on the pavement in Broadstone Way, Holme Wood, on January 5 but they did film it.
Even though the vehicle had no registration plate and the riders were hiding their faces, officers were able to make inquiries which guided them back to an address in Broadstone Way, where they found the quad under sheeting in the front garden.
Tracks in the snow suggested it had been used recently and it was impounded as officers believed it had been used without insurance and that it was also involved in other traffic offences.
Investigations are continuing into the original incident and the quad will remain impounded until they are completed and the ownership of the vehicle is confirmed.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Thanks to the video cameras we use and along with some intelligence from our police systems, we have confirmed the quad bike and a possible suspect from where the quad was seized.
"The message is clear to the anti-social element who wish to disregard the rules of the road that we might not always catch up with you on the day but could pay you a visit when you’ve forgotten about us.
"With the efforts of some residents, we are making progress to reduce anti-social behaviour in the Bradford District. We still rely on the community to contact the police with whatever information you have to identify these offenders."
The Bradford district bike team was involved in the investigation and anyone with information about illegal or nuisance riders can contact them by telephone on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They can also be contacted by email at bradforddistrictasbbiketeam@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
