A GROWING riding for the disabled group has issued an SOS.
Haworth RDA is seeking volunteers to help the charity maintain its provision.
The group began with a single rider and pony 14 years ago, but now caters for more than 200 people at its Vale Mill Lane stables.
“We are Big Lottery funded – which helps with some running costs and staffing – but we rely extensively on the support of local volunteers,” said Jane Lawrence, for Haworth RDA.
“Without our voluntary workforce, the group would not exist as its current level.
“Consequently, as our group grows and evolves so does our need for new volunteers.
“The work is rewarding and strong bonds are developed between the volunteers, riders and staff members.
“Even if people could only spare an hour or so, that would be invaluable.
“Our volunteers are also encouraged to participate, if they wish, in social activities and our fun shows and fundraising events.”
Help is particularly needed from adults on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 9am and 1pm.
Duties can range from mucking out stables to grooming horses and tacking up.
Training is also offered to lead and sidewalk horses during lessons.
