A WOMAN whose husband died when he slipped and fell down steps crossing the Leeds-Liverpool Canal has welcomed action to make them safer.
Jane Martin has been campaigning for improvements at Gallows footbridge, which crosses the canal from Skipton bus station to Gas Street, since her husband, Ian, died at the spot in January last year.
Mrs Martin, of Home Croft, Threshfield, met Canal and River Trust waterway manager, Chantelle Seaborn, at the site and a sign has now been erected informing people who was responsible for the bridge on the parapet railings.
