VOLUNTEERS who look after an ancient woodland are researching the history of the site and seeking people’s reminiscences.
The Friends of Park Wood, in Keighley, plan to document how the popular spot has been used over the years and what has changed in recent times.
“We would be interested to hear from anyone with their personal memories such as playing in the woods or sledging as a child or of the gas lamps that once lit the cobbled path,” said Liz Fisher, for the Friends.
“Old photos showing identifiable parts of the wood would be great too, together with any commonly-used names to identify particular landmarks on the site.”
The group meets in the wood on the first Saturday of every month to carry out tasks ranging from litter picking to planting, and bi-monthly meetings are held in Thwaites Brow and Long Lee Village Hall to plan activities.
Anyone with historical information, should contact the Friends via park-wood.co.uk or write to Liz Fisher at Lynwood, Spring Avenue, Keighley BD21 4TA.
