NORTH Yorkshire Police has started a recruitment campaign to draft in 100 new Special constables.
The role is voluntary and requires those who do it to commit at least four hours of their time a week. Special constables work alongside police officers and can cover a variety of duties, including policing public events, tackling anti-social behaviour or attending emergencies.
The force currently has more than 160 special constables, who come from professions such as teachers, airline cabin crew, office workers and archaeologists.
Chief Constable Dave Jones said: “Special Constables are a very important part of the policing family. “It is a role where life experience really counts, so we are looking for people who have already built up some problem-solving and people skills through their work or home life, and are looking to use their abilities to take on a new challenge.”
