THE inquest into the death of a dad-of-two from the district who went missing while hiking in the remote Russian Caucasus mountains is due to resume in Bradford today.
John Stiles, 52, of Skipton Road, Ilkley, disappeared in November 2013 and was found on July 18 last year and his body recovered by helicopter.
A post mortem examination in Russia found he had died from a massive head injury as a result of blunt force trauma.
Mr Stiles had been commuting between Ilkley and Russia while working in Grozny as a country director for the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) for the last two years before his death.
He was an experienced mountain walker and climber.
He was initially identified by personal possessions found on him, believed to have included his wedding ring.
Mr Stiles disappeared on a ten-hour hike in the mountains. A helicopter recovered him after a brightly-coloured object was spotted on high ground.
