A BRADFORD-based former soap star hopes a comedy he has written will be turned into a TV series.

Lee Otway, 33, of Allerton, who starred in Hollyoaks as Bombhead from 2001 to 2006, has co-written, directed and produced Educating Bitchfield.

The sitcom pilot, which has adult humour, was filmed at Thornhill Community Academy, Dewsbury, the school where the hit Channel 4 documentary series, Educating Yorkshire, was set.

It also features a host of familiar faces from TV including former Coronation Street actor Scott Wright, Brookside star Louis Emerick and Waterloo Road's Mark Benson.

Billed as a 'mockumentary', the pilot focuses on a struggling school which is set to close. Its humour looks to mix the likes of shows including Phoenix Nights and The Inbetweeners.

A three-minute trailer of the 28-minute long pilot episode has been uploaded on to YouTube.

Now the post-production phase of the pilot, which Mr Otway co-wrote with Ross Marshall, has been completed, they are looking to pitch it to broadcasting companies over the next couple of months.

The pilot episode also features performers, who play students, from the Yorkshire School of Acting, based in Forster Court, Bradford.

Mr Otway, who is in his second and final year of studying for a masters degree in film production at the University of York, hopes to combine jobs in front and behind the camera in the future.

Away from Hollyoaks, he also appeared in Kay Mellor's BBC drama The Syndicate in 2013.

He said: "It's about finding the right production company that really believes in it, before we can go forward with it.

"We have had a couple of people already approach us.

"I was overwhelmed that actors of that calibre wanted to give up their time for my pilot.

"It will be a post-watershed comedy but I want it to appeal to people aged from 18 to 80.

"The vibe was good on set, everyone was behind it.

"I had the idea for the pilot about three years ago but only started working on it last year.

"Over the next six weeks I will look to be finding the best company and I'm already having a few meetings now.

"The feedback has been really good so far.

"I would quite like to do more work behind the camera.

"I will be looking to do six episodes of 30 minutes each, to make up the first series.

"I am still looking to do some more acting. I myself appear in the series too.

"I would love to appear in another soap. Emmerdale is one of my favourites and being a Yorkshire lad, it's something I'd love to appear in."
