A WHITE van rocked in a dark supermarket car park as two men inside fought over a drug deal that went wrong, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
Karl Clayton suffered a fractured cheekbone and a suspected broken nose and Joshua Greenwood, a black eye in the violent quarrel outside Morrisons in Keighley town centre.
A witness, who was out with his young daughter, called the police after seeing punches thrown and the fight spill onto the street at around 9.50pm on November 9, 2013.
Clayton, 25, of Airedale Crescent, Undercliffe, Bradford, and Greenwood, 22, of Fell Lane, Keighley, were each originally charged with affray.
The Crown accepted their pleas to the less serious offence of threatening behaviour in an incident described by prosecutor Peter Hampton as “a drug deal gone wrong”.” Greenwood also admitted possession of cannabis with intent to supply that night and simple possession of a cocaine.
Clayton was sentenced to a 12-month community order.
Greenwood was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months. Both men were ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £250 court costs.
A replica firearm was seized, and along with small amounts of cannabis and cocaine.
The court heard that both men had turned their lives around in the 14 months since the offences and were valued employees in full-time work who did not touch drugs.
