A BRIDGE which carries a busy road across a canal has been closed to vehicles today.
The canal bridge at Apperley Road, Apperley Bridge, has its safety barriers down to prevent motor vehicles from crossing it.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said they received a report from a resident at around 4.40pm saying the canal bridge had been damaged and there was a backlog of traffic at that time.
Although it was not a police matter, the incident has been referred to the Canal and River Trust, who said the bridge had been closed due to a malfunction.
Speaking at 6.30pm, the spokesman said the problem was being dealt with and the bridge was expected to reopen shortly.
