A MAN who drove his car at his wife after an argument was sentenced to a community order.

Abdul Rashid, 30, of Heaton Road, Heaton, Bradford, “flipped,” Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Prosecutor Camille Morland said the couple had argued all day, on Monday, June 9 last year.

Rashid was in a Renault Clio with their four-year-old son but when he saw his wife, Nasreen Ali, he drove towards her.

His wife said: “As soon as he saw me he speeded up. I stood close to the fence on the path.”

She said her husband drove on to the path and tried to hit her. The car touched her leg but she was not injured. He then left the scene.

Rashid now had no contact and pleaded guilty to common assault.

Judge David Hatton QC told him: “You committed an assault upon your wife when you flipped. You have not done that before or since.

"It was wholly out of character.

“Fortunately she suffered no injury, though no doubt she was terrified and very upset.”

Rashid was sentenced to a 12-month community order, with supervision, a medium activity requirement, and 80 hours of unpaid work. The judge made a restraining order for 12 months, preventing Rashid from contacting his wife.
