AN EXAMINATION into the way governors at Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College were controversially replaced last year has been put off by councillors until later this month.

The governors were replaced by Bradford Council over concerns at the way the school was being run and replaced with an interim executive board.

A report by council officials, due to be studied by the council’s children’s services scrutiny committee yesterday (Tue), recommended no further action.

But councillors wanted to see more evidence over the situation, including information from petitioners who objected to the way the issue was handled.

The meeting was told some of that information was too sensitive to be heard in public but it was agreed to come up with redacted documents which would help committee members draw conclusions.

Councillor Faisal Khan, who had been chairman of the governing body, attended the meeting and said: “The petition asked for a transparent investigation. This is about the right to hold people to account. We feel this process has not been followed not just on one occasion, but on repeated occasions.”

Committee chairman Cllr Malcolm Sykes said: “The crux of the petition is that you feel something has not been done properly.

“It is for this committee to determine from the evidence out there whether there is credibility and authenticity to what you are saying.”

Further evidence on the issue is expected to be heard on January 27.
