CAMPAIGNERS have failed in a bid to get Bradford Council to ban fracking in the district.
A group, spearheaded by Councillor Kevin Warnes (Green, Shipley), had sent in a petition calling on the Council to ban fracking-related drilling on its land and discourage private developers from undertaking it.
But a meeting of Bradford Council’s executive heard a blanket ban could leave the Council open to legal challenge, which could prove costly.
Councillor Val Slater, executive member for planning, said: “We don’t want to be putting the Council at risk, particularly in these tight financial times.”
The executive resolved to decide each application on a case-by-case basis, while looking to develop a joint approach to fracking with neighbouring authorities.
