BRADFORD women are being urged to sign up to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2015.
Last year, 2,040 women took part in Race for Life in Bradford and raised £97,400. This year, organisers need 2,100 women and girls to stride out to help raise £100,000.
Every hour, more than three people are diagnosed with cancer in Yorkshire and the Humber and that is why the charity wants as many women as possible to fight back against the devastating disease by entering Race for Life 5k event at Lister Park on Sunday, June 14.
Sarah Threadgall, Cancer Research UK’s Bradford event manager, said: “We’re urging women of all ages, shapes and sizes to take on Race for Life in their region and sign up now.
"Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer."
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is a women-only series of 5k events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding life-saving research.
Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Yorkshire and the Humber.
Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. But more funds and more supporters are needed to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
Miss Threadgall. said: “We’re calling on the brave ladies of Bradford to show their fighting spirit once more and take on cancer at this year’s event.
"Race for Life is to celebrate those who are with us, and also remember those who are not. The atmosphere is electric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women of Bradford to help make 2015 our best year yet.”
