NEW bus routes may be created in Baildon to help ease school-run parking problems depending on the results of two online surveys now taking place.

Following the success of re-routing buses to ferry more children to and from the town's CoE primary school, ward councillor Debbie Davies has now asked West Yorkshire Combined Authority to look at the travel needs at Sandal Primary School and Hoyle Court Primary School.

The move comes after residents raised concerns about parking issues.

"Local residents are always telling me about all the cars parked on residential streets near Sandal School and so an altered bus route might help the problem," Cllr Davies said.

"When looking at the current bus route it doesn't go into the area where probably the majority of children come from at the top of Baildon - so WYCA have set up a survey to see if more people would use it if it went a slightly longer route."

Cllr Davies said Hoyle Court School does not have a bus service at the moment, but might well benefit from such a service.

"Parking never used to be much of a problem, but since the school expanded there are more children and they are travelling from further afield so a survey has been set up to see if a bus would be popular if it was set up.

"However there is no guarantee about this and there would be several hurdles to negotiate as the roads around Fyfe Grove are very narrow.

"Also there is nowhere for a bus to pull into within the school grounds.

"However despite the fact the council has put 'don't block driveways' signs in the surrounding roads, there are still a lot of complaints from residents about parking problems.

"It's hoped these surveys will really help give a clear picture of what people want and how things can be improved.

"So I'd urge all people concerned to go on line and take part, " Cllr Davies said.

Headteachers Louise Hale at Sandal Primary and Lynda Florence at Hoyle Court Primary felt unable to comment on the need for parents to take part in the surveys.

A West Yorkshire Combined Authority spokesman said they had set up the surveys, but that any bus provision would ultimately be funded by Bradford Council.
