A WOMAN wept as she told a jury she was repeatedly raped behind a Bradford pub after her head was pushed into a wall.

She said she struggled to breathe when her attacker put his hand on her face and told her not to scream.

The woman was working as a prostitute in the Westgate area in the early hours of August 11 last year when she agreed to do business with Dawood Mohammed, it is alleged.

Mohammed, 24, of Roper Lane, Queensbury, Bradford, is said to have raped her twice and stolen a corkscrew from her handbag after demanding money.

The case is going ahead at Bradford Crown Court in front of an empty dock after the jury was told that Mohammed is too mentally unwell to take part in the trial process.

Instead of the customary 'guilty' or 'not guilty' verdicts, jurors must decide if he did or did not commit the acts charged against him.

Judge Peter Benson said a separate hearing had already ruled that Mohammed was not fit to stand trial.

Prosecutor Philip Standfast said the woman was paid £20 by Mohammed for sex a few days before he allegedly raped her.

On the night in question, he approached her and asked if she was working.

She went to an apartment off Westgate to smoke drugs but met up with him later on, it is alleged.

The woman accompanied Mohammed to a secluded area behind the Harp of Erin pub, on nearby Chain Street.

She claims he then subjected her to a terrifying attack in which she struggled to breathe because she suffers from lung disease.

The woman wept as she told how Mohammed pushed her to the ground before raping her.

He demanded "where's your money?" and searched her pockets and handbag.

She told him she had no cash on her because she had just begun to work that night.

Mohammed is said to have gone through her bag and walked off with a corkscrew, ordering her not to tell the police and to wait where she was for five minutes.

The jury heard she was left leaning against the wall, crying.

When she left the scene, the police were alerted after a friend saw her in distress.

Mohammed was arrested and the woman picked him out at an identity parade, saying she was 99 per cent certain he was her assailant.

Mr Standfast said that DNA evidence linked Mohammed to the scene.

The trial continues.
