A BRADFORD band has been given a homecoming gig with a difference at a civic reception in the city.

Scars on 45 members, who have performed on hit American programme The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and had songs featured on popular US programmes, were handed a civic reception in recognition of their achievements.

The group, whose tunes have been heard on CSI: New York and Grey’s Anatomy, were welcomed to City Hall by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mike Gibbons and the Lady Mayoress Elizabeth Sharp.

The four-piece band, whose members are all from the Bradford district, saw the Lord Mayor’s rooms and the civic silver before a reception was held in the banqueting suite in front of dozens of their family and friends.

The band is made up of lead singer and guitarist Danny Bemrose, vocalist Aimee Driver, keyboard player David ‘Nova’ Nowakowski and drummer Chris Durling.

After success Stateside, they are hoping 2015 will be their breakout year this side of the pond.

They found out this week that they will record the theme song for the latest series of BBC drama The Syndicate, following the lives of five Yorkshire supermarket workers who win the lottery.

Danny Bemrose, who made a speech at the event alongside the Lord Mayor, said: "It was a bit of a shock to get a civic reception, we were surprised.

"We have spent a lot of time in Bradford, particularly in our early years, it has been a long process. Bradford is where we have done everything.

"We grafted and grafted as we were building on what we were doing.

"Coming back to England is like starting again for us. We have a good reputation for being a hard working band.

"It's a shame that there are not too many places around Bradford for bands to play. We have just got to continue writing good songs and touring.

"We have toured relentlessly for three years."

Scars on 45 will go back to America on January 20 to do a mini-tour. They will return for a UK tour, starting on February 20, including a date at the Leeds Wardrobe on February 27.

They will now be promoting their new album, Safety in Numbers, which is being released on Nettwerk Records in the UK on February 23.

The Lord Mayor said: "We wish the band all the best for their new album.

"It is good to see so many people here at this reception to welcome the band.

"They are all very proud that they come from Bradford. They epitomise what Bradford is all about. It has the talent and Bradford has the ability to spread that message across the world."
