HEALTH chiefs are to hear first hand how the Bradford Beating Diabetes campaign has helped one woman at risk from the condition.
Mumtaz Mansha was identified as being at risk of developing diabetes and was encouraged through the campaign to make small changes to her lifestyle.
That has had a huge impact on her health and she will be explaining the details to the NHS Bradford City Clinical Commissioning Group’s governing body when it meets on Wednesday.
Bradford Beating Diabetes (BBD) was launched by the CCG in November 2013 and aims to raise awareness of the condition and prevent people from developing it. It also supports those who are currently being treated for diabetes.
Mumtaz’s wider family has a history of diabetes so she was invited by her GP practice to attend for diabetes screening. When she was found to have a raised blood glucose level she was offered a place on the Intensive Lifestyle Change Programme.
“I was shocked and scared when the doctor first told me I was in the pre-diabetes stage.
“On his advice, made some fairly immediate changes to my lifestyle – including starting a strict diet and going to the local ladies-only gym,” said Mumtaz.
