POLICE have swooped on Bradford outlets offering so-called legal highs within days of a change in the law which has meant some of the substances are reclassified to the same category as cocaine and heroin.
Officers stepped in as part of Operation Nightshot, their campaign to target the dangers posed by the psychoactive substances.
Police warn the substances, which have been designed to mimic the effects of controlled drugs including cocaine, cannabis, ecstasy and amphetamines, can still cause harm.
Last Wednesday, January 7 the Government amended the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and controlled synthetic opioids which are LSD-related compounds and tryptamines, including compounds commonly known as AMT and 5-MeO-DALT, are now Class A drugs.
On Saturday officers visited premises in Bradford as well as others in different parts of the county, seizing a total of 155 packets of what are now Class A drugs.
Officers made no arrests but on each occasion staff were informed and advised about the implications of the new legislation.
