A COUNCILLOR is asking Bradford Council to investigate fresh complaints over late-night music from a shisha lounge.
Kream Shisha Lounge in Leeds Road is open until 2am Monday to Thursday and Sunday and until 3am on Friday and Saturday, according to the company's Facebook page.
However, plans submitted to the Council for a restaurant and snooker club on the site were approved in April last year, on the condition it could not open between midnight and 8am.
Now residents who live near the site have complained to ward councillors in a bid to get the music noise levels turned down.
One person, who did not want to be named, said: "The noise goes on until very late, 3am at weekends.
"I have had a number of my neighbours complain about it.
"You can hear the noise from the lounge from 200 to 300 yards away.
"It's been going on for months. Someone needs to do something. The noise gets worse on the weekends.
"There are a lot of older residents who live near the lounge. They must be going through hell."
A resident complained to the Council about late-night noise from the lounge in August last year, but no further action was taken.
Now, Councillor Ghazanfer Khaliq (Lab, Bradford Moor) is taking up the issue with the local authority again after receiving a fresh complaint from a resident.
"It's unacceptable. If I was a resident near the lounge I would be complaining too.
"People all have to live there and don't deserve to live in a noisy environment.
"I think it's in the owner's best interests to control the level of noise coming out of the building," he said.
"It has been going on for a few months now. One or two residents have been vocal about it.
"I will be referring it to Bradford Council's Environmental Health department to see what kind of action can be taken.
"The business has a right to operate but they don't have a right to create a disturbance for local residents."
A Kream Lounge spokesman denied the premises was responsible for excess late-night noise but added the music would be turned down.
He said: "We are on an industrial unit. We are trying our best not to make any noise. We are trying not to make any noise intentionally late at night."
The Council said a previous investigation had not found evidence of excessive noise but its spokesman added: "If anyone has any issues with the premises they should get in touch and we will investigate."
