KEIGHLEY youth theatre KYDZ is moving forward two decades for its latest production, Truth and Dare.
A follow-up to last year's 1960s-themed musical Runaways, the show is set during the early 1980s in a northern town. The action centres on Frankie Prentice, a girl who frequently gets into trouble for her wild behaviour at school.
The deputy headteacher's plan to put Frankie in charge of the school magazine to try and steer her in the right direction backfires when the teenager decides to spice up the dull newsheet and recruit new members to her team of misfit reporters. As the team investigates fraud and other misdeeds in the school and town, the youngsters come under fire from the head, local shopkeepers and the police.
The young journalists eventually discover the ruthless deputy head has a hidden agenda, and they're unwittingly pushing forward her dark conspiracy. Frankie faces betrayal, rebellion and imprisonment as she tries to expose the truth.
Truth and Dare is set against a backdrop of anti-nuclear protests, Citizens Band radio, inter-school fights and Rubiks Cube mania.
The show features a host of 1980s hits, including Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Mickey, Time After Time, Kids In America and Walking On Sunshine.
The cast of 19 are aged between 10 and 17.
Truth and Dare will run at Oakworth Methodist Church on March 27 and 28 from 7.15pm. Tickets go on sale later this month.
The group will also be recruiting new members at Easter for rehearsals for the KYDZ summer show. For more details email david.knights@kydztheatre.
