THE funeral of an elderly man who was found dead at his Bradford home eight months ago will take place tomorrow – thanks to one of his friends.
John Adeyemi’s body was discovered at his home in Osmond House, Croscombe Walk, Little Horton, on May 13 last year by police. Officers were alerted because Mr Adeyemi had not been seen for several days.
Authorities were set to cremate Mr Adeyemi because no relatives came forward after his death, before his friend Herbert Wuver stepped in - after reading about the death in the Telegraph & Argus - and arranged a burial and gravestone.
Now, after relatives of Mr Adeyemi - who hailed from Nigeria - came forward in November, the 75-year-old will have a funeral at Scholemoor Cemetery tomorrow at 9am.
Among the mourners at the funeral will be Mr Adeyemi’s sister Angelina Olanipekun and his nephews Baba Tunde and Ade Mola.
Mr Wuver said: “I was prepared to pay for the cost to make sure he had a proper marked grave, and to look for his relatives. I didn’t want him to be cremated - I wanted him to have a proper burial.”
He added: “I am over the moon. All I wanted to know was that he was not a lost quantity - I am so happy.”
Mr Adeyemi’s death was not treated as suspicious by police.
